What Are the Steps in Dry Pet Food Production?

The selection of core ingredients and their compatibility with the dry dog ​​food making machine's extrusion process are crucial. For grain ingredients, corn and wheat flour are preferred due to their good gelatinization properties, providing support for extrusion. Their proportion should be controlled between 30% and 50%. Too low a grain content will make the dry food difficult to shape, while too high a content will result in overly hard pellets. For protein ingredients, choose high-quality proteins such as fish meal and soybean meal, accounting for 25%-40%. Excessive protein content will inhibit starch gelatinization, affecting the extrusion effect; this needs to be balanced with the grain ingredients. Avoid adding too much high-fiber ingredients (such as beet pulp and brewer's grains); the addition amount should be ≤15%, otherwise it will hinder starch gelatinization, leading to insufficient extrusion.

Formula optimization and nutritional balance design are also important. Adjust the formula according to the pet's needs: dog food can appropriately increase the grain content, cat food needs to increase the protein ingredient ratio (≥35%), and dry food for young pets needs to reduce pellet hardness. Adding 1%-2% oil to the formula can improve palatability. Nutritional additives must be evenly incorporated during the mixing process. Heat-sensitive ingredients (such as probiotics and vitamin C) should be added later to avoid inactivation in the high-temperature environment of the Dog Food Extruder machine. Simultaneously, the moisture content of the raw materials should be controlled between 12% and 14%, which is the optimal moisture range for efficient operation of the extruder. Excessive moisture can cause the raw materials to stick to the extruder screw, while insufficient moisture will result in insufficient frictional heat generation, requiring additional steam.

Key details of raw material pretreatment: All raw materials must be pulverized to 80-100 mesh. Insufficient particle size uniformity will lead to uneven heating of the raw materials within the Pet Food Extruder machine, resulting in some particles being scorched and others not being extruded. After pulverization, the raw materials must be screened through a vibrating screen to remove unqualified particles. At the same time, thorough cleaning of raw material impurities should be strengthened to prevent wear on the extruder screw, barrel, and die head, extending the equipment's service life. Thorough mixing is essential to ensure that the materials, moisture, and additives are evenly integrated, avoiding localized nutrient excess or deficiency, which would affect the consistency of the dried food quality.
